Above the Indian Ocean
My unlucky attempt to sail to Australia did not only cost me money and time, it also made me to step on an airplane for the first time for 6 years. The sailing yacht STNT was suppose departure weeks earlier than we eventually did, which made my Indo visa come close to its end. I was willing to pay a lot of money not to fly and I tried a few unofficial routes to extend my expiring with no results.
Eventually my options were A) risk of paying up to 500€ for overstay fees on the time of exiting Indonesia, or B) paying 100€ for a return flight to Singapore and meeting again an incredible girl who I had met two weeks earlier. It’s no joke that women rule the world.
When sitting on board the aircraft ready to departure in the end of the runway, I felt a little excited but heavy. The distance dream of mine to make the Finland to Finland loop without flying, sustainably, would be broken, but what would it mean? Could I ever wear a t-shirt of main stating ‘My life is my message’ again?
I let my intuition and heart to guide my way and that cannot be wrong.
I knew that doing a visa run only for monetary reasons would be selfish in the view of environmental sustainability, I could have let the money talk and avoid the flight. Though it would have been equally unthoughtful to ignore the opportunity to see Kim again. I let my intuition and heart to guide my way and that cannot be wrong.
It was beautiful up there.
