Captain giving us a thumbs up close to Myanmar border
Only two days after leaving Bangkok I found my self enjoying indoor luxurious again. Even without the magical contacts of Dan, who is heading to India now. I met a bike tourer a month ago in Laos, who invited me to come over to Hua Hin, his home town. I bloody did come over and what a treatment I got! Anthony gave me keys to a two bedroom flat with a swimming pool in the front and told me that I could stay as long as I liked. He also offered me an outstanding dinner in his restaurant (the finest in town!) and took me wakeboarding for the first time in my life.
I was also invited to join in a two day trek to the Burmese border with Thai Royal Airforce, which had a border control post in the deep jungle. Half of the way we walked in a river as it was the easiest way forward. During rainy season the camp can be reached by a helicopter only.
Part of our dinner was hunted and gathered
The crystal clear jungle creek provides what can not be hauled in with a chopper. A delivery of new men and necessities arrives every three weeks.
The men spent their 3 week shift in the jungle by trekking, hunting, fishing and occasionally, drinking. Quite a many things of my liking coming together!
