A step at a time toward the Lake Turumtaikul. The climb up to a 4300m pass in the end of a Shokhdara valley was the hardest I’ve done in my life. Steep, off-camber road with lots of loose gravel and rocks at that altitude made progress slow. It was also the first time on my trip to cycle above 4000 meters.
A dream road.
When we finally reached the pass at 4300m the scenery was like from moon. The ground was so hard and flat that I was able to ride to where ever my fancy took me.
Lake Turumtaikul is a 5km long lake at 4200m, where no one apparently goes. On our map there was a road up there, but in practice there were just trails of animals. I’ve been looking for a place like this the past year.
Up at the lake was probably the most peaceful and silent place I’ve been in my life. It wasn’t hard to decide to stay a bit longer in the morning, dry some gear and just listen to heart beat.
The best single track I’ve ridden for a full year!
