Qinghai, China
There are many gas stations in China, but to reach this by bicycle is special. The ‘short cut’ route from Golmud toward South East Asia follows the Qinghai-Tibet Highway the first 100km. As Tibet is currently forbidden for Western cyclists, the first Police check point on the road is known to doesn’t let cyclists through. Earlier the same month Dan (selfpropellingparticle.com) got through the checkpoint by hiding behind a truck and Fredrika (@thebikeramble) got caught trying the same trick but by some magic got eventually through anyway.
Based on their advices I dressed up fully black, waited till darkness and rolled through the checkpoint on the left hand side lane just 15m behind the back of Polices in duty unnoticed like a ghost. Coke at the gas station had a taste of victory!
