On a cargo boat at Caspian Sea
My four days in Baku, Azerbaijan went quickly and rather smoothly. After collecting my Uzbek visa I got on a cargo ship to Aktau, Kazakhstan, the following day. Though getting the ticket was a race against time. ‘Collect the ticket within 20 minutes, please.’ The harbor is 84 km a away. ‘Get on board in two and half hours, please.’
I was incredibly lucky to meet an Italian couple with a motor home getting on the same boat, so hey gave me a ride there. Surprisingly it didn’t feel bad at all to sit in a car with my bicycle, first time on my trip. I was just happy to make it to the harbor on time and to have a cup of Italian coffee with my new Italian family. Eventually the train getting on the same boat was 4 hours late and we departed from Baku at 3am.
