South Kazakhstan
The roads in the first part of Kyzyl Khum Desert were sometimes really good, sometimes nearly unridable. Luckily there were many new roads under construction and I was able to enjoy smooth new tarmac a few kilometers occasionally on unopened roads.
Road construction workers were normally really excited to see me and I often stopped to chat with them for a while. Once the workers asked me if I wanted to have a shower. I was a bit confused what they meant as there were no natural water source for at least 200km radius and water was a valuable commodity in general in the area. They took me behind a truck, which was apparently full of water, and I had a nice cool morning shower in the middle of the desert.
